This portfolio can eventually be used for Direct School Admission (DSA). Some of the writing assignments are quite interesting. There was one where they had to write from the point of view of a cockroach at a hawker centre.
Here's one of Lesley-Anne's poems she included in her portfolio for this year:
At the back of the folder, they have to include acknowledgements. And here's what Lesley-Anne wrote:
She acknowledged me! Yay!! See, I'm not such a hands off mum lah... I told her that was the best part of her portfolio and she rolled her eyes. Am I an egoist or what?

Well done mummy! So gratifying when they appreciate your effort. So, what are the tips on writing better compositions :)
Buy a book on compositions and make 'em read it, haha!
No lah, I gave her a list of alternative phrases, eg. instead of "said", you can use "retorted", "expounded", "protested" etc. It's not that the kids don't know these words, but when they're writing, they don't immediately come to mind, so it's just putting them in their consciousness. And other nice phrases. That's about it, no magic formula. Not that your kids need one anyway! They're so adept in writing.
Wow! That's such a nice compliment from your own kid. 7th heaven, eh??
Yah lor, considering her teacher "forced" all the kids to acknowledge her!! At least mine was unsolicited :P
Hahaha! Think she's planning to show up as the reason why so many of the kids get in through the DSA ;)
Oh... that's why you came in only second.
But sometimes, the more important people are also mentioned last....
Good work Mommy Monica! And like you, I'd read the acknowledgement page, again and again! You're not an egoist. You feel appreciated and loved! Make sure you whip this out again when L-A publishes her first book ;)
Very clever poem. I like it. At least your efforts are appreciated!! Writing must run in Lesley-Anne's genes.
Thank you all! Yes, nice to be appreciated... Cindy, you're right, I shd keep this for when (if) she gets famous!
