I'm baaaaaack.
You would've thought that after 7 days of holiday in a terrific city, I would be all relaxed and zen but nooo... today, I'm a ball of tension - it feels exactly like BEFORE I left for the holiday. Why? Let's see...
I happily thought I could blog while on holiday since I would be staying with my cousin and she has a computer. But as petit fleur pointed out, I couldn't blog in Beijing cos the authorities there block certain blogspot accounts. Apparently it's not all accounts, and the blocking is random, doesn't matter whether you're blogging on something as innocuous as fishing. So there I was with all these great photos and memories still fresh from each day of adventure and unable to share it. I couldn't even log in to publish the comments, for Pete's sake. I thought of posting a comment on Lilian's blog and would you believe it, I couldn't even access her blog to read it! I couldn't go into Facebook either, I felt completely cut off from the world.
We touched down late last night and the first thing I did on waking up this morning (even before breakfast), was to turn on my computer. Or at least, try to turn on my computer. IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. It seems that one week of neglect was just too much - it died sad and alone. I realised right then and there that the joke I made about how a bunch of us (with Lilian as president) should form the IAA (Internet Addicts Anonymous) was not really a joke. Cold sweat, curses, short of hallucination, I could've sworn I was going through withdrawal.
How am I posting this, then? Well, thank God we have a spare laptop that Lesley-Anne uses - she's not getting to use this today, I'm commandeering it until the IT service guy comes this afternoon to see if he can revive my baby. I'm praying the miracle happens - me and my Compaq have had many precious years together (plus too much un-backed up information).
So I will still post on my travel blog as promised, but delayed. I just hope it will be via my baby and not the substitute.
Welcome back! :)
ReplyDeleteFor a long time I have no idea what is IAA.....now I know. LOL...
Actually you are addicted to your community and the fact that it is an easy community whereby you don't have to book appt, arrange any logistics or burn your ears(on the phone) and yet can still communicate and exchange ideas with them on an offline way that does not disrupt your lifestyle. But once you have no access, it completely disrupts! :P See? I know it so well myself! LOL...

QX: would you believe that in the afternoon, the laptop decided to die as well?? I couldn't believe it, it might as well be an episode of Punk'd! The Computer Nightmare Day... and my CPU is dead and unrevivable, sob. Getting a new one on Friday. Meanwhile, working on hubby's laptop...
ReplyDeleteOMG...Murphy is hard at work huh? But on the positive side it is the CPU and not the hard-disk. Hard-disk crash is the worst ever... I have 2 external hard-disks for backups...talk about ks. LOLL... Actually I learned my lesson the hard way, I had a digital nightmare before which I am still trying to recover from it, mentally.. But think harder again, this may be God's blessing for a very nice Christmas gift? heh heh :D

Sorry Monica, it would all have been very funny if I didn't know the withdrawal symptoms myself. Ouch!!! And yay! Welcome back!! The blogging scene hasn't been the same without you, and Cindy surfaces so rarely that I wonder how she can hold her breath for so long... Can't wait to see the pics. Oh dear oh dear abt your PCs. Think I better go back my PC up now. The most recent time was when LIlian's conked.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, your computers kena Beijing Flu or what? I've been meaning to back up all my pictures, but keep procrastinating. Lost some of them when my Mac died on me a couple of months back. It's a terrible feeling.
ReplyDeleteBut now you get a new computer!
Can't wait to hear all about Beijing!
My computer missed me too much, probably, not used to prolonged inattention! But seriously, the IT guy said the capacitor on the board blew out because I left the main power on, which I did because the Mio box shared the same socket. I never knew that you shd turn off your main switch to avoid this, both for CPU and for monitor. So learn from me, gals!
ReplyDeleteThe silly thing was I backed up all my pics but my last backup for work documents was back in March. So major panic, had to ask clients to resend working files. So malu...
Welcome back, Mon! After reading all the posts, I better off to get an external hard disk to do some back up too. My powerbook die on me last year too, some of my gals photos and all my recipes that I have painfully collected were all gone...yet I'm still procacinating to get an external hard disk to do back ups (cause I thought my desk top and lap top are still new...think it may be a sign....beter dun wait further...=P)
ReplyDeleteI will pop by your travel blog. ^_^
